While visiting her a few weeks ago in Vancouver I was happy to find it in it's right place, still on the fridge.
I needed it then - and I need it now.
Thanks Cat.
I recycled the words and made one for myself.
My good friend Cat had this phrase tacked to our fridge years ago when we were roommates.

Today I want to return to Lasqueti… The island begins to reveal itself before you ever leave the main land. Waiting for the ferry at French Creek provides samplings of what’s to come. There is no ticket counter. No cashier. No debit or credit machine. Just a stack of paper slips stapled to a post – and you better get one - or you won’t be getting on. This is Lasqueti: in every way, unorthodox. And chances are you’ll fall in love before you ever arrive. I don’t know that I would have found a reason to visit the island on my own. Thankfully, my yoga teacher, Steph, gave me one. Island rides are amazing! My dear friend, Shelane, joined me for the weekend (making the drive all the way from Edmonton!). As we walked the island roads we spotted the vehicles that had been part of our growing up years. A twin to her father’s farm truck, ‘old blue’ was found parked on the side of the road. And later I found a sister to the car my mom drove us to school in until the fourth grade. Saturday’s market was incredible. Wood carvers and sock makers. Jewellers. Artisans. Farmers. A community center. An art gallery. A hearty gathering. As watching the kids run and circle around the space, I said to Steph, “These kids glow. They are so beautiful!” Her reason for that was simple. “They run around naked in the woods all day - of course they glow!” We had the privilege of camping near - and practicing yoga - in the Leviathan Studio. The structure is unlike anything I’ve seen. An avant-garde piece of architecture and art that leaves you wanting to build a house in the trees. Dining happens here. Seating is naturally carved out from the rock. And the food. Ooooh my god, the food! Steph isn’t just a gifted yoga teacher, she’s a foodie of the finest sorts and the menu reflected that well! Every bit of this weekend was delicious. The eats, the scenery, and, of course, the yoga! Yep. We practiced here! And here! I can’t write the practice into a paragraph or two. But it was magical. Live music. An inspired - and inspiring - structure. Beautiful people. The spirit of the island. I returned home refreshed – and well stretched; soothed and full of Lasqueti bliss. Steph's retreat happens every summer ;) – and in the meantime, feed your yogi needs by stopping in at one of her classes at Open Door Yoga in Vancouver.
